India offered stake in Imam Khomeini Airport expansion

Iran has offered India a stake in the proposed Imam Khomeini  airport expansion as part of an $8bn infrastructure investment package, Iran’s ambassador to India Gholamreza Ansari  confirmed this week. The offer follows the recent visit to Iran by an Indian delegation when their participation in a number of rail, port and bridge projects was discussed.
“Given the fact that India maintained commercial contacts with Iran after sanctions were imposed over the nuclear issue, Delhi will get priority when our government invites partners for investments,” Ansari said.”We are hoping that some of the investments will kick-start soon as Iran offers huge potential,” he said.
Connectivity was  one area where the two countries were hoping to forge a ‘win-win’ partnership, he added. Iran and India are currently also discussing India’s participation in the 600-km rail network between Chabahar port and Zahedan which will eventually connect India with the Iranian rail network, and in the 220-km rail link between Rash and Astara in northwestern Iran which would complete the International North South Transport Corridor.
