Russia looks to UAE: On the eve of the annual AIM Congress in Dubai, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexander Tsybulsky has been sounding out local UAE investors about their possible financial and operational participation in some of Russia’s major transport infrastructure projects. “The United Arab Emirates has a wealth of experience in turning airports and ports into points of economic growth,” he observed this week. “Considering our transport potential, we are interested in attracting local investors and, possibly, even Arab asset management companies to developing this sector.”
Tsybulsky has also been discussing possible locations (including Egypt and the Emirates) for a grain production and distribution hub in the region. “Russia is one of the world’s largest agricultural producers, and the interest of Arab countries is obvious. Foreign investment in processing agricultural products on Russia’s territory is an important area of bilateral cooperation.”
