Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia are putting together plans to create a North-South energy corridor now that the sanctions on Iran have been lifted, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Natig Aliyev told journalists on Monday.”The North-South corridor is being established not only in the transport but also in the energy sector,” he said. “It will provide for the export of electricity from Russia to Azerbaijan and from there onto Iran. A special working group has been established and the energy ministers of three countries are working on this issue.”
Aliyev went on to add that Azerbaijan and Iran were also looking to cooperate on major projects in the oil and gas sector. “The issue of the Iranian gas being transported through Azerbaijan is on the agenda as is the Iranian use of Azerbaijani gas storage facilities.”
