Serbia‘s top energy priority is build a pipeline link to Bulgaria in order to secure alternative sources of energy and gas to Russia now that the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline has been put on indefinite hold, its Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic has told delegates at the Regional Energy Prospects conference in Belgrade. Setting up a spur line to Bulgaria could give Serbia access to gas supplies from Azerbaijan via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the construction of which began in March.”We must no longer … rely on just one supply source ,” he said.
Although talks have already begun with the authorities in Sofiam, however, the CEO of the state-owned gas monopoly Srbijagas Dusan Bajatovic warned that Serbia would have serious problems for the next 10 years if Russian gas deliveries through Ukraine stopped.
