Malaysian government gives green light for $58bn Forest City development

Malaysia’s Department of Environment has approved plans for the construction of  the Forest City  luxury housing project on an artificial island in the Johor Strait by Chinese developer Yang Guoqiang, despite environmental concerns.
Located in the Iskandar Development Region of Johor Bahru the  $58.3bn  Forest City development will cover an area of almost 14 km² – nearly half the size of Macau  and under two miles from Singapore –  and is scheduled for completion in 2035.
“Dubai built a city in the desert and we will build a Forest City ….with a Singaporean lifestyle and the economics of Malaysia,” said Yang.
