Iranian oil exports could reach 1.56m barrels per day (bpd) according to Mohsen Saeed Ghamsari, International Affairs Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). The bulk of the oil is destined for Western Europe, he said, although Eastern Europe was also seen as a potentially important new market. Immediately following the lifting of sanctions, oil exports increased by 500,000 bpd to reach 1.4bpd this month.
Following this month’s visit to Tehran by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Hellenic Petroleum may emerge as one of Iran’s major clients and is about to double its daily orders to 150,000 barrels, according to the Ministry of Energy.
