After posting solid earnings growth for 2015, Hong Kong billionaire Richard Li Tzar-kai’s PCCW conglomerate immediately unveiled plans to roll for its Viu-brand over-the-top (OTT) video and information technology services businesses across 11 Asian markets.
“We have all the fundamentals in place,” PCCW group managing director Srinivas Bangalore Gangaiah said in a conference call on Friday. “Following the launch in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, Viu will have expanded presence in Indonesia and India in this first quarter.” PCCW Solutions, the company’s IT services arm, is also to boost its presence in mainland China and other markets in Asia.
Net profit from core operations increased 23% last year to HK$2.37 billion ($300m), with core revenues up 19% to HK$39.15 ($5,08).
