Tehran and New Delhi are preparing to revive the South Asian Gas Enterprise SAGE pipeline initiative that would see Iran export gas to India through a 1400-km underwater pipeline. Talks are already under way with an Indian company and Iran is ready to sign the contract as soon as sanction are lifted, the CEO of Iran’s National Gas Export Company Alireza Kameli told the Shana news agency last week. Construction of the pipeline is expected to take around four years and would be the longest underwater gas pipeline in the world, 2ookm longer than that connecting Norway to the UK. Iran is sitting on around 18% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, according to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2015.
