New Delhi to push ahead with Indian reform program, pledges Jaitley

Indian reform program: Encouraged by a 7.9% GDP growth rate in the first three months of the year, the Indian  government is determined to push ahead with its reform agenda and to retain its position as the world’s fastest growing economy, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said this week.
“For India to realise its full potential for the next few decades, it certainly needs to pursue its programme for economic growth more vigorously,”  he said during a lecture at Osaka Univeristy. “It is only by maintaining higher levels of growth that we will be able to alleviate poverty….Despite the global slowdown and two years of bad monsoons, we have reached a situation where we have the highest growth rate in the world.” There were a number of reforms in the pipeline that needed to be implemented over the next few years, he added.
