First Silk Road train reaches Tehran

Silk Road train: The first  cargo train to complete the 10,399km journey between Yiwin City in China’s Zheijiang province and Tehran via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan arrived at its destination yesterday, 19 days after setting off. “The launch [of the Yiwin-Tehran rail service] is important to the revival of the Silk Road Economic Belt,” said Iran’s Road and Urbanism Minister and Managing Director of the Iran’s state-run rail company Mohsen Pour-Aqaei at the welcoming ceremony,  “as the train can cover about 700km a day.” The service cuts about 30 days off the alternative maritime route from Shanghai to Bandar Abbas and is scheduled to run once a month.
