Iran calls for investors into energy sector at GECF summit

As the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) opened in Tehran yesterday, Iran’s President called on the attending member states to help develop the country’s oil and gas reserves.
“I invite the leaders of the countries in this group to partner with Iran and invest in developing Iran’s gas resources for mutual benefit,” he said. “Iran is ready to play a bigger role in the supply of gas.”
The Forum, which attracted the presence of  President Putin and several other leaders including  President  Eva Morales (Bolivia) , President Nicolás Maduro (Venezuela) and President Muhammadu Buhari (Nigeria), took place a week before Iran is expected to unveil contract blueprints for future oil and gas development contracts. The other members of the GECF are Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, the UAE, Qatar and Trinidad & Tobago. Six countries have observer status – Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman and Peru.
