The Italian government has officially given the go-ahead for the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the country’s Minister of Economic Development Federica Guidi said today, after overcoming environmental objections from several provinces on its route. Work is expected to begin next year. Stretching across Northern Greece and Albania and the bed of the Adriatic before connecting up with Europe’s natural gas network on the heel of Italy, TAP will be a key link in a 3,500km gas delivery chain stretching from Azerbaijan via the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) to the EU. The pipeline will start near Kipoi on the border of Turkey and Greece, where it will connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP).
