$4bn Kazakh urban development programme unveiled

Kazakh urban development programme: Kazakhstan’s Ministry of National Economy is reported to be planning to spend $4bn creating metropolitan clusters around the cities of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent and Aktobe. All the country’s  towns and cities are to be graded and put into one of three  categories on the basis of their economic potential, with the second tier encompassing the administrative capitals of each of Kazakhstan’s 14 oblasts (plus Semey and Turkestan).
