Almatay Ring Road: Kazakhstan’s Economic Minister Yerbolat Dossayev came to London this week at the head of a delegation looking to raise investment for the Big Almaty Ring Road (BAKAD) project. Designed to ease congestion in Kazakhstan’s capital, BAKAD is one of Kazakhstan’s largest ever non-oil PPP proposals and needs around $700m of private-sector funding to get it off the ground. The project will include the construction of a highway with four and six technical category 1a traffic lanes with asphalt concrete pavement, eight interchanges and an intelligent transport payment system. The project will stretch for 66 kilometres and will have the capacity to carry 38,000 vehicles per day. The BAKAD project was presented to investors at the London headquarters of the EBRD.
