Altel to spearhead Kazakhstan’s seven-year 4G network drive

Kazakhtelecom subsidiary Altel is to spearhead Kazkhstan’s drive to improve its telecommunications infrastructure with a KTZ105bn project that will expand 4G (LTE) mobile broadband internet networks across the country over a seven-year period. The project will be jointly funded by Kazakhstan’s Development Fund and the  Samruk-Kazyna sovereign wealth fund,  Kazakhtelecom’s majority shareholder. In  a written statement, the bank said that the project would be rolled out in two phases, with all major cities and towns with more than 50,000 residents being provided with 4G services by the end of 2018 and the rest of the country gaining access to LTE networks by 2022.
