KAZ Minerals to invest $1.6bn in Aktogay and Bozshakol copper mines

KAZ Minerals, Kazakhstan’s  largest copper producer, this week announced that is to invest up to $1.6bn this year to develop its mines and processing plants at Bazhakol and Aktogay. Production is expected to begin at Bozhakol by the end of the year and the mine will have an annual production of 75 kilotons of copper concentrate per year over a life cycle of 40 years. First oxide copper cathode production is expected from the Aktogay mine in the fourth quarter of 2015, whilst first sulphide copper in concentrate output is scheduled for 2017.
