Kazakh telecoms to be opened up after WTO accession

Legislation restricting  foreign ownership in the Kazakh telecoms sector to 49% will be relaxed within 2.5 years of the country acceding to the WTO later this year, its Minister of Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova  said today. The change in legislation will enable the country to attract foreign investors to the domestic telecommunications market, and to “improve the quality, increase the range and reduce  the cost of telecommunications services,” she claimed.
