Legislation restricting foreign ownership in the Kazakh telecoms sector to 49% will be relaxed within 2.5 years of the country acceding to the WTO later this year, its Minister of Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova said today. The change in legislation will enable the country to attract foreign investors to the domestic telecommunications market, and to “improve the quality, increase the range and reduce the cost of telecommunications services,” she claimed.
