Kazakhstan uranium production tops world table

Kazakhstan uranium production: Kazakhstan  last year maintained its position as the world’s largest uranium producer and, with 986 exploratory wells being drilled in the twelve-month period, looks set for a repeat performance in 2015.  According to Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan produced 22,829tU in 2014, up from 22,548tU in the previous year – well over twice as much as Canada, the world’s second largest producer. According to the World Nuclear Association, Kazakhstan has 12% of the world’s uranium resources and  became the leading uranium producer in 2009, with its proportion of world production rising to 38% by 2013.  The country has invested in  a major plant  dedicated to the manufacture of nuclear fuel pellets and in the long run plans to sell value-added fuel as well as the raw material. Times of Central Asia
