Kazatomprom & ConverDyn in UF6 deal

UF6 deal: Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom and ConverDyn, the US-based provider of natural uranium hexafluoride (UF6)  conversion services,  have signed a framework agreement  that will see them supply UF6 to nuclear power plants around the world. Commonly referred to as “hex” in the nuclear industry, UF6 is a compound used in the uranium enrichment process that produces fuel for nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons,
“The agreement we signed today ….will take the scope of our cooperation to a new level,”Kazatomprom, CEO Askar Zhumagaliyev Kazatomprom said on ratification of the agreement. “This provides  us with the opportunity to access new markets with a further integrated product offering. The ability to match our uranium capabilities with a respected supplier like ConverDyn will pay dividends for both companies.”
ConverDyn is  a partnership between General Atomics and Honeywell. It currently  supplies over 60% of global nuclear power plants from the world’s largest UF6 conversion facility in  Illinois.
