BRICKS: The Banker this week renewed calls for Kazakhstan to be invited to join the BRICS economic union. With China and Russia being the country’s largest trade partners – as well as being significant investors – the magazine argues that it would make sense to bring Kazakhstan into the fold. The Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Kairat Kelimbetov told the publication that investors were now making a clear distinction between Russia and Kazakhstan, in large part because the country had not been hit by sanctions and still had access to international capital markets; but he added that it still needed to reform and restore order in its banking sector.
The idea of BRICS becoming BRICKS first surfaced three in 2011 in the World Economic Journal.
