Russia grounds Proton-M rockets after latest crash

A Proton-M carrier rocket carrying a Mexican satellite malfunctioned and crashed in Siberia soon after launch on Saturday, prompting Russia to put  any further launches on hold. The third stage of the rocket carrying the MexSat-1 communications satellite suffered a problem about 500 seconds after launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, but the cause of the accident is as yet unclear. Last month Russia was forced to abandon a $51m mission to deliver almost three tons of supplies to the International Space Station  after an unmanned Progress M-27M cargo ship failed to dock.
