Samruk-Kazyna looks to open in Silicon Valley: Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna is considering setting up a subsidiary company – provisionally called Samruk Innovation – in California’s Silicon Valley. The idea of establishing a presence at the epicentre of the world’s high-tech industry came to light last week when a delegation headed by Samruk-Kazyna’s Chairman Umirzak Shukeyev visited several companies in the Paolo Alto area including Tesla Motors and SolarCity, a science park in the southern portion of Northern California’s Bay Area and both Stanford and Berkeley Universities. As well as discussing the Samruk Innovation concept, the delegation also discussed the possibility of cooperation in the arenas of alternative energy, petrochemistry, transport, medicine, agriculture, education, and information technology. Samruk-Kazyna’s hosts were additionally invited to participate in EXPO 2017, due to be held in Astana.
