Transport ministers from across the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) last week agreed to increase the level of cooperation in the development of their shared road and rail infrastructure including the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Trans Siberian and Bailkul-Amur railroads. At the end of their meeting in Ufa last week, the ministers issued a document that paves the way for the establishment of a joint commission to promote international cargo transportation by motor vehicles. The document also emphasised the importance of developing road infrastructures and multifunctional service centres on SCO international motor routes.
The meeting was attended by representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia, Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
