Shymkent Airport is to get a new multimodal rail, bus and air terminal, it was announced today. Scheduled to open in 2020 and to be completed by 2030, the 34,000 m² terminal will integrate freight and passenger services with other transport networks and the airport’s logistics centre. Shymkent is Kazakhstan’s third largest city and passenger traffic is forecast to grow from its current level of 200,000 to 2.5m in 15 years’ time, with the new terminal facilitating increases in cargo traffic and economic growth for the city and the surrounding region as a whole.
