Trans Asia pipeline : The authorities in Bishkek and Beijing last week agreed to build a natural gas pipeline through Kyrgyzstan to transport gas from the hydrocarbon fields in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to China in a deal that could be worth as much as $2bn to one of Central Asia’s poorest countries over the next 35 years. The pipeline will be developed by the Trans-Kyrgyz Gas Pipeline Company Ltd and, at a cost of around $1.5 bn, will be one of the country’s largest investment projects. Chinese investment in Kyrgyzstan in 2014 exceeded $200m or around 30% of all direct foreign investments into the country.
