Sports Innovation Centre planned for Moscow: Skolkovo Technology Park and the Russian Olympic Committee are joining forces to develop a new Sports Innovation Centre in the Russian capital. The centre’s mission will be to promote R&D in sporting and biomedical technology and sporting rehabilitation technology, and to explore the commercial potential of other technologies currently being developed elsewhere at the Park that could be applied in a sporting context such as new materials, energy efficiency technology, medical innovation, genetics, bioinformatics and pharmaceuticals. “Modern sport is a hi-tech industry,” explained Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee. “To win, you have to be at the forefront and have your own framework for technological development. Of course, we try to harness the best of overseas research and technology, but it seems to me that as a great sporting country, Russia should be able to act independently.” The new centre will cover a 50,000m² site and will employ 580 people.
