North-east China’s high-speed Danda Railway coastal link opens

China–North Korea Friendship Bridge at Dandong

The Chinese north-east coastal express Danda railway line linking the  ports of Dandong and Dalian opened today as part of a bid to reinvigorate the region’s old industrial belt.
After five years of construction,  trains will run between the two ports along the 290km line at 200 kph, according to the  Shenyang Railway Bureau, with 24 passenger and 34 freight trains scheduled to make the journey each day. Dandong is a key hub for trade, investment and tourism between China and North Korea and the new line will also connect up with the existing Shenyang-Dandong and Harbin-Dalian high speed railways.
