Ukraine files formal complaint with EU over ‘political’ Nord Stream 2

Ukraine has filed a formal complaint with the European Commission in an attempt to block the construction of Nord Stream 2, the new gas pipeline to Germany that Russia intends to lay under the Baltic Sea bypassing Ukraine. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk broke the news during yesterday’s meeting with Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak. “Ukraine has filed a formal complaint with the Energy Community Secretariat regarding the construction of  Nord Stream 2 because it is a political project,” he said. Plans for the pipeline should “not only [be] revised, but cancelled.”
The European Commission confirmed that they had received a complaint from Naftogaz Ukraine and has promised to review the complaint  and send a response to the Secretariat of the Energy Community.
