BRICS space station proposed by Russia as alternative to ISS

BRICS space station: A Russian proposal for a new BRICS space station may make it on to the agenda for the five-nation Ufa summit this July, according to TASS.  The proposal is the brainchild  Russia’s Military-Industrial Commission, the government’s primary point of contact with the country’s aerospace and defence industries that President Vladimir Putin took personal control of towards the end of last year.  The proposal comes after months of speculation that the crisis in Ukraine could herald the end of cooperation between Russia and the US in the space arena, particularly  in the International Space Station which allows countries with less advanced spaceflight capabilities to piggyback on the joint Russian-US infrastructure. The Commission has recommended that Russia go into partnership with either India or China, and allow other BRICS partners to participate in a lesser capacity. The Moscow Times
