The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) this week announced that it is going into partnership with the Japanese Credit Bureau (JCB) to increase its new Mir national payment card’s footprint. As a result of the agreement the new Mir card will be accepted at all points around around the world where the JCB cards is also recognised. The Japanese payment network has around 86 million cards in circulation and is currently accepted by around 28 million retail outlets in 190 countries.
The Central Bank launched the new payment system earlier this year and in May announced that it would issue its first payment cards later this year.
