Gazprom accused of violating antitrust laws in eight EU countries

Gazprom accused: The European Commission has formally charged Gazprom of violating antitrust laws and abusing its monopoly position in eight countries – Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia. The crux of the EC’s case is that, by both supplying the gas to these countries whilst also owning the pipeline networks that transports it, Gazprom is violating EU competition rules by, among other things, reducing the host countries’ ability to resell the gas to their neighbours. Gazprom has 12 weeks to counter the charges.
