Greece may turn to Russia, China or the US for financial assistance if it fails to reach an agreement on the restructuring of its debt with the EU, its new Defence Minister Panos Kammenos told the Greek TV channel Mega today. The message from Kammenos, who heads the far-right party Independent Greeks that is a minority party within the new government, was at odds with that of the Finance Minister Janis Varufakis who denied that Greece would seek help from Russia; but the Defence Minister insists that the government has drawn up contingency plans. “In the event that an agreement cannot be achieved if we can show that Germany refuses to be flexible and intends to destroy Europe, then we are obliged to go to an alternative plan of action,” he said. “In the best case, it may be the United States, but it could be either Russia and China, and other countries.” Interfax
