Alliance-1892 to build first Russian whisky distillery in Kaliningrad

Wine and cognac producers Alliance-1892 is planning to build the first ever Russian whisky distillery in the exclave of Kaliningrad,  its General Director Igor Kudryavtsev said yesterday. The  $14.6m distillery will be able to meet up to 35% of Russian consumption and its produce will also be exported to India, China, Africa and Latin America. “The distillery will offer a domestically made product, which will be comparable to the world’s best,” Kudryavtsev said, adding that a number of foreign companies had offered to collaborate in the project.
It only became possible to produce whisky in Russia last year after the  production of distilled beverages from grain was legalised.
