The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, the German-owned truck and bus manufacturer with headquarters in Japan, has suspended assembly of trucks in Russia on account of declining demand and the weakness of the rouble – but has no plans to pull out entirely or to initiate a round of redundancies. “The prospects of resuming production are not yet determined,” a company representative said. “However, we are not going to leave Russia and there will be no job cuts. We will be monitoring the development of the situation,” he said.
Mitsubishi Fuso has been manufacturing Canter trucks in the Tatar city of Naberezhnye Chelny since 2009 through joint venture set up between of its major shareholder Daimler AG and Russia’s KAMAZ.
