Moscow has dropped from 9th to 50th place in the 2015 Mercer Cost of Living Survey that calculates which are the most expensive cities in the world for for foreigners to live in. The authors of the ranking put the city’s dramatic slide down to the weakened ruble, the fall of oil prices and the effect of western sanctions.
While the Angolan capital Luanda retains first place, the most expensive cities in the footprint covered by Eurasian Business Briefing are Almatay (94th, up from 111st), St Petersburg (152nd, down from 35th), Tashkent (162nd, down from 180th), Minsk (200th, down from 191st) and Bishkek,(207th, up from 209th).
