Baltic pipelines: The Russian energy sector’s European charm offensive continued today with Energy Minister Alexander Novak telling Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper that its plans to build two more gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea was an indication of its commitment to Europe as a strategic partner. “We never had any intention of turning away from Europe,” he said.
Last month, Gazprom signed an MoU with E.ON, Shell and OMV for the construction of the two new Nord Stream pipeline what could double supplies to 55bn m³ a year. A joint venture is expected to be established in the very near future.
