Rouble sinks to new low as oil prices plummet

The Russian rouble fell to  69 against the U.S. dollar and to 75 against the euro  on Monday for the first time since September as the price of the benchmark Brent crude slid from$44.64 to $44.76 after OPEC member countries decided to maintain  current production levels at last Friday’s meeting.
“The oil price dynamics and strong U.S. stock market statistics published last Friday were the key drivers of the ruble’s fall,” VKS Express analyst Ivan Kopeykin said adding that recent tensions between Russia and Turkey were likely to undermine both the country’s currencies.
