Russia clamps down on food smuggling: Russia’s food health and safety watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor is preparing to prohibit any food imports entering the country via Belarus and Kazakhstan whose origins have not been checked and verified by Russian officials at the border crossings. Russian authorities are becoming increasingly concerned that West European food producers are sidestepping Russia’s ban on EU food imports by channelling their goods through Russia’s fellow Customs Union member states. Rosselkhoznadzor estimates that more than 7,500 tons of meat and 11,000 tons of fruit and vegetables have illegally imported into the country this month alone. Gazeta
