Russia denies connection between FIFA arrests and 2018 World Cup

FIFA arrests: The chairman of the Russian parliament’s sports committee Igor Ananskikh has insisted that today’s arrest of several high-ranking officials on corruption charges has nothing to do with Russia’s successful bid to host the 2018 World Cup. A FIFA official  also categorically denied  that there could be a re-vote for the hosting rights to either the 2018 or  2022 tournaments,  despite the arrest of seven officials and the launch of two corruption investigations into the organisation on Wednesday morning.
