Cuban transport hub: Russia, Cuba and possibly some other countries are planning to co-finance the creation of a major transport hub on the island that will involve upgrading Mariel port and building a modern international airport in San Antonio de los Banos, President Vladimir Putin said this week. He also confirmed that Russia is to write off 90% of the $35bn debt that Cuba amassed on loans during the Soviet period. ITAR-TASS
