Russia may lend Greece cost of Turkish Stream extension

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow

Turkish Stream extension: Russia is considering lending Greece the funds to build an extension to the Turkish Stream pipeline through its territory,  two Greek government sources told The Moscow Times  yesterday. Such an agreement might also entail Athens paying less for its gas, although Moscow has yet to decide on the size of the discount (if any). The sources, who insisted on anonymity, estimate that Greece could earn around €500m a year in transit fees from the pipeline and that it would use the revenues to pay Russia back once the pipeline came on stream. Greece’s Prime Minister Alex Tsipras is currently in Moscow where he has met both President Putin and Prime Minister Medvedev.
