Russia moves to ban GMOs from food chain

The Russian government has announced that it is to slap a ban on the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in domestic food production,  Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said on Friday.
The announcement is not the first sign of Moscow’s opposition to GMO; last year, it prohibited their import and early in 2015 approved a draft law banning GMO cultivation except for research purposes. Several other countries across the world have also banned their import and/or their cultivation on health and safety grounds.
