Russia suspends FTA with Ukraine as EU agreement looms

President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree suspending Russia’s four-year-old FTA with Ukraine from the beginning of next year, it announced through its website yesterday. The suspension of the pact was triggered by “exceptional circumstances affecting the interests and economic security of Russia and requiring immediate action,” the decree said. The suspension will coincide with the commencement of Ukraine’s FTA with the EU, which  Russia has repeatedly cannot run at the same time as the existing agreement.
