Russia to redirect European gas supplies from Ukraine after 2019, Miller warns

Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller

Russia to redirect European gas supplies: Gazprom CEO Alexei  Miller this week gave notice that  Russia would be redirecting all gas supplies destined for Europe through the Turkish Stream pipeline once the current contract with Ukraine expires in 2019.
His pronouncement is the latest sally in an ongoing skirmish which began last year when the EU raised objections to the  construction of the South Stream pipeline through Bulgaria. Russia reacted by announcing that it intended to construct the Turkish Stream pipeline as an alternative which would see around 14bn m³ of gas being supplied to  Turkey with another 49bn m³ being pumped to a hub on the Turkish-Greek border for customers in Europe. The new pipeline could see Greece becoming  one of Europe’s main energy distribution centres.
