The Russian destruction of banned food imports continued yesterday, with the country’s agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor destroying 3 tonnes of meat and 20 tonnes of pepper subject to the retaliatory embargo on EU food imports imposed last year. A total of 371 tonnes of embargoed food has been destroyed in the last three days, according to the watchdog.
The meat was discovered at a provisional control veterinarian outpost in Krasnaya Gorka in Smolensk in three trucks carrying meat without veterinary stamps and accompanying documents. The pepper was also discovered and destroyed there.
A further 40 tonnes of peaches and nectarines provided with certificates issued in Belarus claiming Moroccan provenance have been stopped at Krasnaya Gorka and are due to be destroyed after the Moroccan authorities could not confirm the authenticity of the paperwork.
