Regional governor Alexander Khoroshavin today predicted a Sakhalin gas boom which could see the island producing up to 42bn mcu of natural gas a year by 2020. “A whole cluster of companies will be formed within the next five years, [providing everything] from the production of fuels and their supply through pipelines and by ship … to the building of gas-and petro-chemical enterprises in the Far East and eastern Siberia,” he said.
