US-Russian trade drops 28% in first full year of sanctions

US-Russian trade: Russia’s  trade turnover with the US dropped by nearly 28% last year compared to 2014, the first full calendar year since the imposition of sanctions, the TASS news agency reported over the weekend. “Last year was not particularly favourable for trade between Russia and the US,” Russia’s Deputy Economic Development Minister Alexei Likhachev is quoted as saying. “Our overall 2015 turnover was $21bn, a decline of 27.9%.”
In 2014, Washington imposed economic restrictions on Moscow due its interference in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin responded with counter measures that included an embargo on American food imports.
