Vladivostok diamond exchange to open next year

Vladivostok diamond exchange: Plans to open a diamond exchange in the Far Eastern port of Vladivostok by the end of 2016 are ‘absolutely real’, Deputy Prime Minister  Yury Trutnev said today, as Russia looks to challenge Antwerp’s dominant position in the world’s diamond market.  It was ‘stupid’ to sell diamonds to Japan or China via Belgium he said.
Although the centre of Russia’s diamond industry is in Yakutia which is 3,000 km to the north, Vladivostok’s proximity and transport access to the lucrative  markets of Asia have made it the logical choice for the new centre. Alrosa, the country’s leading diamond producer, has pledged to produce a timetable for the opening of exchange in the next couple of weeks.
