Serbia plans to retain its neutral position on sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, its President Tomislav Nikolic told Russia’s Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko this week, days after saying that he did not rule out toeing the Brussels line once it had acceded to the European Union. “We continue to believe that Russia and the European Union must resolve their differences the negotiations,” he said. Serbia is not expected to gain full membership to the EU before 2020 at the earliest.
