Iranian transport infrastructure program: Iran is looking to Turkey’s construction industry to help it with its $10bn initiative to upgrade its network of roads, airports and railways, the Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Alireza Bigdeli said this week. The government in Tehran was ready to award a series of major transportation projects to “internationally proven Turkish companies,” without requiring them to go through a bid process over the next three to five years, he said.
The Ankara-based construction company Bergiz Insaat has already won a $1.2bn project to build a highway between Iran’s northwestern city of Tabriz and Bazargan on the border with Turkey, and is also building an $800m subway in Tabriz.
